Description:
All People United - "lets become one"
Purpose:
As first year college students attending SUNY New Paltz, we have come to the realization that even though the ideals of unity, community, and diversity are popularly discussed the necessary actions to make these ideals manifest are not being taken. New Paltz is our new home, we live here, we learn here, and we grow here. Even though we are a “community” each of us as individuals seclude ourselves within our own comfort zones through cliques and specific groups of friends, alienating ourselves from everything else around us. We within APU would like to take action against this common practice that we as students and people do subconsciously. We aspire and aim to terminate these divisions, to unite the student body by executing programs that appeal to the entire student body, aimed to embrace our differences while at the same time revel in our unity and the fact that this campus is so diverse. We plan to inspire ideas as well as action that will assist us as individuals to break free of our comfort zones, with the hopes to really unite the community despite ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, nationality and any other classes we divide ourselves into. We have some program proposals: Shadow program where we would have high school students visit New Paltz and mirror image an upper class men, Sankofa: Going Back to our roots, and Prep For Permit.
